Advancing Knowledge and Skills in Orchid Cultivation Training

As one of the most valuable and widely appreciated ornamental plants, orchids hold significant economic and aesthetic importance. Through the Orchid Cultivation Training Program, PPHI provided participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical experience to strengthen human resource capacity in the floriculture sector while supporting the development of a more competitive and sustainable ornamental plant industry.

The training was held at DD Orchid Nursery, Batu, East Java, combining classroom sessions, hands-on practice, and field visits to provide participants with a holistic learning experience.

Training topics included:

  • Basic understanding of orchids, including growth characteristics, classification, and identification of orchid species.
  • Orchid propagation techniques, plant morphology and physiology, as well as an introduction to tissue culture technology.
  • Field visits to orchid tourism gardens and practical seedling transplanting activities.
  • Orchid maintenance practices, covering watering, preparation of insecticide and fungicide solutions, and fertilization techniques.
  • Greenhouse management, including air circulation systems, daily maintenance standards, and preparation of suitable growing media.
  • Sustainable orchid business strategies and marketing approaches.
  • Industry visits to Kios Barokah, Mitra Floran, Taman Arjuno, and Tiara Nursery in Malang to gain insights into nursery management and ornamental plant marketing.

Through this combination of theory, practical activities, and industry exposure, participants gained valuable knowledge and skills to support the advancement of Indonesia’s orchid and floriculture industry.
